Manufacturing Methods : (a) in the presence of boric acid 1,2-Dihydroxyanthracene-9,10-dione in sulfuric acid in the nitration; (b) 1,2-Dihydroxyanthracene-9,10-dione in glacial acetic acid, toluene, petroleum ether or the nitration of nitrobenzene.

Properties and Applications: red light brown (chromium), red orange (aluminum). Insoluble in water. In concentrated sulfuric acid to orange, dilution after yellow.
